Legacy Planning

Ensuring your wealth goes where you intend.

The foundation

What is legacy planning?

Your wealth has a purpose beyond your lifetime. We help you plan a smooth transfer of assets to loved ones and charities — coordinating estate documents, beneficiary designations, and wealth transfer strategies so your legacy reflects your values, not default rules.

Legacy planning is more than a will and a stack of documents. It's the deliberate design of how your wealth, your wisdom, and your values move from your hands to the people and causes you care about most.

It covers the legal architecture — wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, beneficiary designations — and the strategy that gives that architecture purpose: who receives what, when they receive it, how it's protected, and how much of it the IRS keeps along the way. A real legacy plan turns a transfer of money into a transfer of intention.

Why it matters

Without a plan, your estate follows the state's rules — not yours.

State default rules, outdated paperwork, and a probate court that moves slowly and publicly fill the gaps. Beneficiary forms from a job you left twenty years ago can override the will you signed last week. A missing trust can mean months in court and significant cost for your family. A poorly designed inheritance can hand a windfall to someone who isn't ready for it.

None of these outcomes reflect what you actually want — and all of them are preventable. The families who navigate this well don't do so by accident. They do it because someone helped them plan.

What we coordinate

A customized Phase 2 Retirement Plan coordinates the five pieces that decide where your wealth goes — and how it gets there.

  1. 1

    Estate document coordination

Wills, revocable trusts, durable powers of attorney, and healthcare directives form the legal backbone of your plan. We coordinate with your estate attorney to make sure the documents are current, consistent with each other, and aligned with the rest of your financial life.

  2. 2

    Beneficiary design

Beneficiary designations on retirement accounts, life insurance, and annuities pass outside of your will — and they overrule it when they conflict. We audit every account, fix the gaps, and coordinate primary and contingent beneficiaries so your assets actually arrive where you intend.

  3. 3

    Tax-efficient wealth transfer

How you transfer assets matters as much as what you transfer. We use Roth strategies, lifetime gifting, step-up-in-basis planning, and tax-aware account titling to reduce the bite that taxes take out of the inheritance you leave behind.

  4. 4

    Trust & generational planning

When the situation warrants — blended families, beneficiaries with special needs, sizable estates, charitable intent — trusts become powerful tools for protection and control. We help you decide whether they belong in your plan, and coordinate with your estate attorney to design them to do real work.

  5. 5

    Charitable giving

If giving is part of your story, we help you decide which causes matter most, when to give, and how — whether that's naming a charity as a beneficiary, setting up a charitable trust, or giving during your lifetime. Your tax plan then helps each gift cost as little as possible, so every dollar does as much good as it can.

Your Phase 2 Retirement Plan

Inside the plan

How this fits your customized Phase 2 Retirement Plan

Legacy Planning is the final piece of your customized Phase 2 Retirement Plan — but it's never an afterthought. The income, investment, tax, and healthcare decisions we make together all shape what's left behind, which is why we design the legacy alongside the life, not after it.
